VeraLease (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the website at veralease.ca and associated mobile applications. We are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation.

Information you provide directly:

• Account information: Email address and password when you register with email, or your name, email address, and profile picture when you sign in using Google, Apple, or Facebook.
• Listing information: Vehicle details (VIN, year, make, model, trim, body type, drivetrain, fuel type, transmission, doors, cylinders), lease terms (monthly payment, months remaining, original term, total allowed kilometres, excess KM penalty, cash incentive), leasing company name, location, seller type, and seller notes.
• Photos: Vehicle photos you upload when creating a listing.
• Messages: The content of messages you send to or receive from other users through the Platform.

Information collected automatically:

• Usage data: Pages visited, actions taken, and general usage patterns within the Platform.
• Session data: Cookies and local storage are used to maintain your login session and remember your preferences.
• Device information: Browser type, operating system, and IP address, collected via standard web server logs.

Information from third parties:

• OAuth providers: When you sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that provider, subject to the permissions you grant.
• NHTSA VIN database: When you enter a VIN, we query the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public API to retrieve vehicle specifications. This query includes only the VIN number.

• To create and manage your account.
• To display and manage your listings on the Platform.
• To facilitate messaging between buyers and sellers.
• To send transactional emails such as password resets and account confirmations.
• To verify listings and maintain the quality and integrity of the marketplace.
• To detect and prevent fraud or abuse.
• To improve the Platform based on usage patterns.

We do not use your personal information for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

We do not sell your personal information. We share your information only in the following circumstances:

• With other users: Listing information you post (including vehicle details and your general location) is visible to all Platform users. Messages are visible only to you and the recipient.
• Service providers: We use Supabase (database and authentication) and Vercel (web hosting) to operate the Platform. These providers process your data on our behalf and are contractually obligated to protect it.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of VeraLease, our users, or the public.

We retain your account information and listing data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes).

Listings marked as “sold” are retained in a deactivated state for record-keeping purposes. Messages are retained while your account is active.

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), secure authentication, and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Under PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy laws, you have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction: Request that inaccurate or incomplete information be corrected. Most information can be updated directly from your account settings.
• Deletion: Request that your personal information be deleted.
• Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw consent to our collection or use of your information at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions. Note that withdrawing consent may prevent you from using some or all of the Platform.

VeraLease is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

The Platform may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised “last updated” date. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
